I was inspired by the rising commercialization of surrogacy in recent years. In turning the womb into a commodity, the society will once again value women primarily for their reproductive capacities.

Because of economic coercion, surrogacy will occur for the benefit of the rich at the expense of poorer women. For centuries, their bodies and reproductive capacities were used to control and oppress them.

The feminist movement has attempted to break this mold and women sought to control their bodies so as not to be prisoners of their biological capacity. However, commercial surrogacy will ultimately threaten the reproductive freedom of females and eventually aggravates the inequality in gender.
